Coral Racing App
With horse racing being so popular in the UK it’s pretty obvious that a UK bookmaker is going to invest a lot of time and money to promote the sport. This is exactly what Coral have done, and with great success. Throughout this review we will see how well the horse racing section of the Coral betting app performs compared with some of the leading betting apps in the market.
Features
It’s clear to see from the outset how much influence horse racing has within the app. The homepage produces a series of ‘Featured’ markets and these are often made of a number of horse races that are upcoming. Depending on the time of day you visit the app and the amount of races taking place at that time will determine how many markets are on offer, but at peak times, expect there to be plenty to choose from.
You can access the horse racing section by a number of ways; the first being from the quick tabs at the top of the homepage, with second being from the footer navigation which stays with you throughout your visit on the app.
Once in you can select from five categories at the top of the screen. These include next four races, today’s races, tomorrow’s races, future races and results. The next four races section allows you to see the next four live races that Coral are currently hosting betting market for – just in case you were wondering! The times are shown at the top of this section and you can quickly flick between each market with just one click.
The sections for today’s and tomorrow’s races include a drop down menu of the meetings taken place. You can select your meeting before being then given a list of the times in which races are happening. After you have selected your time you will be taken to the race card for that section, of which we will talk about more later in the article. Interestingly you can sort these meetings by both alphabetical order and by time in which the first race starts.
The future races section is again pretty self-explanatory, but includes a number of the bigger meetings and festivals that are on the horizon. This ranges from Ante-Post, racing specials and then a selection of high profile meetings as well. The racing specials are actually really good fun and can range from anything including horses, jockeys, trainers and awards within the industry.
The final results section is as simple as it comes. Simply scroll through the list for the race you want to find the result of before expanding that selection to see to results from not only the race but also certain markets including without certain horses, win only and place markets.
The main section of the horse racing app comes in the form of the race card. Once into your card you can start at the top by choosing between the different meetings, then the time of the race you want to view the card for. Below information such as location, time and distance of the race can be found along with a ‘Watch’ button which allows you to stream that race live from your mobile. You will need to have wagered on the race to view it however, but the stream is excellent and even runs smoothly from a 3G connection.
The next little section is a snippet from the world famous Racing post on how they think the race will be run. It’s only about a paragraph or so but gives you an insight as to which horses should perform well. This is taken directly from tipster on the racing post and is even accredited with a specific writer so if you are familiar with the writers, you can keep track as to whom is tipping what.
Next up is the card itself, which includes information on the horse, jockey, silks, number and draw. This also includes their latest odds, or for future races may just have the SP selection to take the starting price when the race eventually starts.
On top of all that you can click on each horse before getting more information on that specific horse and how it could possibly travel in the race. This again is taken from the Racing Post, so the source is more than reputable. It gives information on past races along with info on the Shire for the horse. By selecting the Details tab on that screen you can see further information which includes horses name, jockey, trainer, form, age, weight, stall number and rating.
The bottom of the card shows you where you can see the terms of the race (each way places paid, odds of e/w markets etc.) and also to select the favourite or second favourite from the starting prices.
Coral have developed a version specifically for the Apple iPad that provides some useful additional information for racing punters. Firstly there is a map of each flat and national hunt racecourse that outlines where all the fences, water jumps, ditches and high/low points are located. Information on the ground conditions of each racecourse is also available plus a 5 day weather report so you can see if the going is likely to change over the coming days.
